Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) can be used for just about anything. It’s truly one of those miracle remedies. High blood sugar? Just take some apple cider vinegar. Clogged drain? Dump some baking soda down the drain and pour ACV after it and watch it work. Candida? ACV has been shown to destroy it. It can even help keep fleas and ticks away without using harsh chemicals and nourish your skin. And now, you can make it yourself. What You Need It’s important that your jar is a wide-mouth jar. It makes everything so much easier – especially because you’ll need to add a weight to make sure the apple stay under the liquid. Your weight could be something as simple as a stone you boiled to remove any bacteria from it or a smaller jar that fits in your large jar. Please note that the temperature in your house will affect how long it takes. Generally speaking, the colder it is, the longer it will take. The hotter it is, the shorter it will take. There will probably be something white floating on top of your ACV. That’s normal. It’s a lot like the stuff that’s floating in your kombucha. However, if you see mold, get rid of it. It really shouldn’t mold unless you don’t manage to keep the scraps under the water though. You can use whatever apples you like. Just be aware that the taste will change based on whatever you use. My favorite apples to use are honey crisp. You can also mix different types of apples for your own unique blend.
• Organic apples
• Organic sugar
• Cheesecloth
• Large rubber band
• For every quart of your jar, use one tablespoon of sugar. Dissolve sugar in one cup of water. The sugar will feed the beneficial bacteria in your ACV. So don’t worry. Your ACV won’t be sweet.
• Pour the sugar water in the jar. Add water until the apples are completely submerged.
• Place your weight on top of the apples inside the jar (jar, boiled stone, etc).
• Secure the cheesecloth on top of your jar with a rubber band. There are two reasons you’re doing this. The first is because if you close the jar tightly with a lid, it may explode. The second is to keep bugs and other random things from getting into it.
• Place your dark in a dark place for 3-4 weeks. Strain out the apples and add the liquid back to your jar. Put it back in its dark place for another 3-4 weeks. Make sure you stir it every other day. Taste it every now and then to see if it’s where you like it. When it is, put it in another jar and use it.
